Press Club Brussels: Council of Arab Ambassadors in Brussels questions Israel’s right to defend itself

In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, for an institution that prides itself on the preservation of peaceful and democratic values, Press Club Brussels, on Thursday 19th October, under the guise of a “conference” The Israeli aggression on Palestine and the European position welcomed seemingly pro-Hamas actors to swamp the Press Club Brussels for an event that sought to place the blame for the current conflict solely at the door of Israel.

The highly controversial event involved The Council of Arab Ambassadors in Brussels, and attracted unprecedented hostile questioning from an otherwise easy-going journalistic community.

An official statement issued to journalists openly questioned the right of Israel to defend itself after the barbaric invasion by Hamas which saw at least 1,400 people, mostly unarmed civilians, including children, slaughtered.

When asked by one journalist what pressure The Council of Arab Ambassadors in Brussels had put on Hamas to release Israeli hostages the question was simply ignored, prompting calls from the floor to answer the question.

Again the question was repeated, again to no avail.

The question was asked a third time, prompting a whispered and somewhat lengthy discussion between two of the delegates while journalists looked on in bemusement.

Still no answer came.

The subject was then changed by the delegates with a comment laying the blame for the current crisis with Israel’s actions in the late 1940s.

Finally, one delegate appeared to try to justify the taking of hostages by referring to some 6,000 prisoners taken by the Israelis, many or all of whom, he stated, may be hostages. It became clear that the Arab Ambassadors had not put pressure on Hamas to release the Israeli hostages.

The ambassadors of Jordan, and Palestine were amongst those present at the event.
