Volodymyr Zelensky Survives Apparent Assassination Attempt in Odesa


An explosion that occurred during the visit of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Odesa on Wednesday morning is being reported to have been a targeted assassination attempt against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

While details are still emerging, Zelensky himself confirmed the severity of the situation, acknowledging casualties and injuries resulting from the blast.

The meeting between Mitsotakis and Zelensky had been planned under strict secrecy for security reasons.

Mitsotakis was officially en route to Bucharest for a meeting of the European People’s Party.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disclosed details of a Russian strike on Odesa on the morning of March 6th, as he and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis were present in the city at the time.

Zelensky confirmed casualties and injuries resulting from the attack.

The President reiterated the urgent need for Ukraine to bolster its air defence system in response to such threats.

At the moment of the attack, the head of state was accompanied by the Greek Prime Minister at the port of Odessa. According to Mitsotakis, the explosions occurred in close proximity to them.

The air raid alert in the Odessa region was sounded at 10:41 am, followed by a powerful explosion at 10:45 am. The Ukrainian Air Force reported the threat of ballistic weapon use in areas where air raid alerts were issued.

Prior to this revelation, the Greek publication Protothema reported that the Russian army had launched a missile strike on Odessa while Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was visiting the city.

The publication claimed that the target of the Russian forces was the convoy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
