David Cameron meets with Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with David Cameron, the newly appointed Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, during the latter’s visit to Ukraine.

President Zelensky congratulated David Cameron on his appointment and thanked him for making his first working visit in the new position to Kyiv.

The President praised the defence cooperation with the United Kingdom that enables the Armed Forces of Ukraine to effectively defend against the aggressor’s attack, particularly due to long-range weapons.

The Head of State emphasised that another important priority on the eve of the winter period is to strengthen the Ukrainian air defence system to protect citizens and critical infrastructure from Russian shelling.

They discussed the security situation in the Black Sea and the further work of the alternative “grain corridor”.

President Zelensky thanked the British government for its active support for the functioning of this route and joint efforts to introduce insurance for civilian vessels passing through it.

The parties coordinated their positions on the implementation of joint multilateral and bilateral initiatives, in particular in the context of promoting the Ukrainian Peace Formula and elaborating security guarantees in furtherance of the Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine adopted by the Group of Seven at the NATO Summit in Vilnius.

Special attention was paid to the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, and the UK’s support for Ukraine’s progress toward NATO membership.
