Nearly 1,000 Ukrainian marines are returning home after being trained by Royal Marines and Army Commandos, during a six-month UK programme announced by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during President Zelensky’s visit to the UK in February.

The British Commandos have been training Ukraine’s forces in small boat amphibious operations conducting beach raids using inflatable boats, by day and at night, leading to speculation that Kyiv is actively preparing to retake the Crimean Peninsula.

It is the first programme of amphibious training delivered by the UK to Ukraine.

Training has been carried out using the same equipment as the UK has already provided to Ukraine, and has included explosive demolition of obstacles such as the Dragon’s Teeth anti-vehicle fortifications the Marines could expect to encounter during a beach landing.

The training was delivered by instructors from 42 Commando and 47 Commando Raiding group, considered the finest assault troops in the world delivered the training.

Army Commandos from 24 Commando Engineers and Royal Artillery Gunners from 29 Commando also delivered training.
