Vice-President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, confirmed this development during his address at an event organised by the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament on April 9th.

Dombrovskis anticipated that the EU’s 14th package of sanctions targeting Russia is expected to be adopted in the spring.

He hinted at its comprehensive nature, stating that it would likely include a broad array of restrictive measures with a particular emphasis on countering evasion.

He highlighted Russia’s persistent attempts to disrupt global oil export pricing mechanisms, particularly in the maritime sector.

Furthermore, the Vice-President of the European Commission highlighted the exploration of strategies to counteract the circumvention of sanctions through subsidiary companies of Western countries operating outside of Europe.

He reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to exerting pressure on Russia and its allies, regardless of their geographic location.

Dombrovskis asserted the EU’s determination to pursue individuals supporting the Russian regime and those facilitating the circumvention or augmentation of its military arsenal.

It is imperative to recall that on February 23rd, the EU Council adopted its thirteenth package of restrictive measures against Russia.

This package targeted individuals and entities deemed responsible for perpetuating the conflict in Ukraine, as well as those significantly supporting Russia’s military endeavors.
