Finland assumes presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States for 2023–2024

Finland assumed the presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) on 1 July 2023 for one year.

The cross-cutting themes of the presidency will be comprehensive security, crisis preparedness and resilience. Finland aims to strengthen the CBSS’s activities both in terms of the Council’s role as a platform for political discussion and in terms of practical cooperation.

During the presidency, special focus will be given to the strengths of the CBSS while also addressing the impact of serious crises to the region. Therefore, security-related issues will be emphasized.

Established in 1992, CBSS is an intergovernmental organisation for cooperation between the states in the Baltic Sea Region. The members of the Council are the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, Germany, Poland and the European Union.

The Foreign Ministers of the CBSS Member States meet annually at the invitation of the Presidency.
