Intrigue behind Tucker Carlson’s Moscow visit

The recent sighting of conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, or someone resembling him, in Moscow has sparked a flurry of speculation regarding the motives behind his visit.

While no official confirmation has been provided, the mere suggestion of Carlson’s presence in the Russian capital has set off a wave of conjecture, particularly among pro-Kremlin circles eagerly anticipating a potential rendezvous between Carlson and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to reports from a Telegram channel closely linked to Russian law enforcement, Carlson was purportedly spotted arriving in Moscow from Istanbul.

The channel’s post included images allegedly depicting Carlson at an airport and attending a ballet performance at Moscow’s renowned Bolshoi Theatre.

If accurate, this marks Carlson’s first known visit to Russia, adding to the intrigue surrounding his presence.

The possibility of Carlson conducting an interview with Putin has been met with enthusiasm by pro-Kremlin pundits and military bloggers, who see such an event as monumental.

One Telegram channel, Bezgranichny Analitik, hailed it as an “epochal event,” emphasising the significance of Putin granting a sit-down interview to a Western journalist, especially in the aftermath of Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.

The prospect of Putin’s voice reaching a wider Western audience has generated considerable excitement within these circles.

In past interactions with American journalists, Putin has often found himself on the defensive, countering various accusations and narratives.

However, there’s a sense of optimism among some that Carlson’s purported sympathies towards Russia might pave the way for a more favourable exchange.

On the 5th of February, Tucker Carlson was spotted again in Moscow. He told an Izvestia reporter he had read a lot about Russia, so he “wanted to talk to people, look around, and see how it’s doing… and it’s doing very well.”

Carlson’s previous attempts to secure an interview with Putin, as mentioned in a September interview with Die Weltwoche, suggest a longstanding interest in engaging with the Russian leader.

Recent reports suggesting Carlson’s presence in Moscow have stirred speculation about the true purpose of his visit. While initial reports suggest he may be working on an interview with Putin, analysts propose a more sinister motive: the establishment of covert communication channels between Trump and Putin.

It should be considered that the former President Trump has expressed his willingness to consider Tucker Carlson as a potential running mate in the 2024 elections.

This theory draws parallels to the infamous Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, where coordination between Russian operatives and the Trump campaign was suspected but never conclusively proven.

Assange, the WikiLeaks founder, emerged as a key figure in this saga, acting as a conduit for hacked Democratic Party emails allegedly provided by Russian intelligence.

In this context, Carlson’s visit to Moscow takes on a more ominous tone. Could he be acting as a clandestine messenger, facilitating communication between Trump and Putin?

The possibility looms large, especially considering Carlson’s close ties to both men and his willingness to operate outside the bounds of conventional diplomacy.

Moreover, Carlson’s association with Orban, a known ally of Russian interests in Europe, further underscores the potential geopolitical implications of his actions.

With Trump’s America, Hungary, and Russia forming an unlikely alliance, the spectre of a destabilised Europe looms large on the horizon.
