An exclusive interview with Gerolf Annemans, MEP, on the forthcoming 2024 European Elections

2024 promises to be an extraordinary year: against a backdrop of three conflicts – Ukraine, Palestine, and in the Red Sea – economic woes, and significant shifts in the political landscape European elections are set to take place.

From June 6-9 we have European elections, whereby voters in the 27 member states go to the polls to elect 705 Members of the European Parliament.

At the same time there are to be 9 parliamentary elections in Europe, 4 of which are expected to result in changes of government.

Outside the EU itself there are elections in the UK, and the US.

Again, both are expected to result in changes of government.

At this time, across Europe we are seeing surge in the popularity of right-wing and nationalist parties that strongly suggests that the populace are dissatisfied with the current situation at both national and EU levels.

Vlaams Belang advocates the separation of the French and Dutch speaking regions of Belgium.

This is a policy that has gained significant traction in recent years.

In the Flemish region, Vlaams Belang is currently the strongest party in terms of popular support.

Mr Annemans, a highly experienced politician, and a lawyer by profession, shared his thoughts on the forthcoming elections.
