Russia cracks down on Jehovah’s Witnesses: mass raids and arrests made

Russian police carried out mass raids on the Jehovah’s Witnesses across the country Tuesday and made a number of arrests as part of a new criminal case against the group.

Russia’s Supreme Court ordered the Jehovah’s Witnesses to disband in 2017.

More than 400 members of the church have been charged or convicted in Russia since the ban entered into force, and the homes of 1,166 worshippers’ families have been raided.

The Kremlin declined to comment on Tuesday.
