Netherlands meets Saudi over possible hydrogen import cooperation


Dutch Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra met with the Saudi ministers of foreign affairs and of energy during a visit to the Middle Eastern country in order to reaffirm cooperation among the two countries in several areas.

With Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman, Hoekstra spoke about hydrogen exports to Europe. Saudi Arabia has the ambition of becoming a major player in clean hydrogen and renewable energies. The two discussed the possible usage of the port of Rotterdam as the entry gate for clean hydrogen in Europe.

Before meeting Prince Salman in Jeddah, Hoekstra met with Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. The two ministers talked about international cooperation and issues linked with the war in Ukraine and how important will be to find a political solution to the conflict.

Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands are also cooperating to salvage oil tanker FSO Safer off the coast of Yemen before it spills oil or explodes. The two countries are supporting UN’s efforts to cope with environmental issues in the Red Sea region.
