Today 5 September, Foreign Minister of Estonia Margus Tsahkna attended the Tallinn Digital Summit, speaking on the panel “Rethinking and Reshaping Resilience”, which looked at cybersecurity and digital development. The minister also met with Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova Dumitru Alaiba.

Minister Tsahkna noted that cyberattacks have become an inseparable part of warfare. “In its war of aggression against Ukraine, Russia has used every possible tool – including cyberattacks on civilian infrastructure, targeting hospitals, schools and transport institutions – to hinder the operation of communications and communication systems. This is why it is crucial for every country to have robust cybersecurity,” the foreign minister said.

Speaking about the state’s role in developing e-services and security systems, Minister Tsahkna highlighted the importance of trust, and the responsibility of the state to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data and services. “It is the task of the state to communicate and demonstrate the standards that services have to meet,” Tsahkna emphasised, adding that cybersecurity and the regular storage of data must become part of the DNA of every company.

His meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova Dumitru Alaiba covered Moldova’s integration with the European Union and how Estonia could offer Moldova more assistance on this path. “Based on its successful experience, Estonia is ready to support Moldova with the necessary skills and expertise on the country’s path to the European Union,” Tsahkna underlined.
