Budgets Committee delegation to visit Washington

From 15 to 18 May, MEPs will travel to Washington DC to discuss topics such as the financing of the green transition, support for Ukraine and public debt management.

The seven MEPs will have meetings with counterparts from several parliamentary committees in the US Senate and the House of Representatives to discuss a range of topical matters relating to the financing of the green transition, support for Ukraine and public debt management. They will exchange views with representatives and staff members of the White House, the Treasury and USAID.

They will be visiting the Congressional Research Service and the American Association for the Advancement of Science and attend meetings with representatives of international finance institutions. Finally, the programme foresees roundtable gatherings with various think tanks as well as companies at the US Chamber of Commerce.

Johan Van Overtveldt (ECR, BE), Chair of the Committee on Budgets: “Close relations between the EU and the US are crucial in today’s turbulent economic and geopolitical environment. We share values and we have many common interests, not least in the areas of investments for the green transition, trade or support for Ukraine. But a robust and trustworthy cooperation must be constantly re-asserted and up-graded. That’s why I look forward to discussing these issues with high level counterparts from Congress and the executive branch. Our delegation from the Committee on Budgets will affirm our determination to work together and to deploy the EU’s budgetary instruments in the most effective way for those priorities.”

The delegation is led by Johan Van Overtveldt (ECR, BE), Chair of the Committee on Budgets, and is composed of six other MEPs representing different political groups: Adam Jarubas (EPP, PL), Siegfried Mureşan (EPP, RO), Margarida Marques (S&D, PT), Eider Gardiazabal (S&D, ES), Valérie Hayer (Renew, FR) and David Cormand (Greens/EFA, FR).
